We caught up virtually with a few of our fantastic volunteers to find out what drew them to volunteer with us. Our volunteers are an essential part of our Mayhew family, and though most of them are not able to do their usual role of supporting us at the moment, they are dearly missed by all of us, including our furry residents!
“I enjoy volunteering at Mayhew because I love animals, and I know that Mayhew is a caring and responsible organisation that contributes enormously towards the welfare and well-being of dogs and cats in my area.”
“I started volunteering last year. I love animals and have followed the Mayhew for quite some time. I really liked the way they supported the community and their commitment to caring for animals. The teams are so welcoming, kind and informed at the same time.”
“I absolutely love to see the animals go home and start their new adventures with their new family.”
“A few years ago, I read an article in the local press which made me aware of Mayhew and that they were at capacity with cats and kittens, and fostering was mentioned. I got in touch and began fostering around late summer 2014, when my first foster cat, Italy, joined me. I’ve been fostering off and on since then. I love that I get to help a local charity and also see the cats go on to their forever homes, plus I receive the occasional update from some adopters.”
“I love volunteering at The Royal Free Hospital, where my dogs Poppy and Charlie bring a smile to patients, doctors and nurses. The patients usually don’t want us to leave their ward and it’s lovely to see the joy they get from stroking the dogs. They always tell me how much better they feel after seeing them. As for the other volunteers in the hospital, you couldn’t find a nicer lot.”
“When living in San Francisco, I fostered kittens and fell in love with nurturing such precious beings. Now that we have two adopted cats at home in London, volunteering in Mayhew’s Cattery has been such a delight to help socialise additional kitties awaiting their forever homes.”
“Watching the cats go to their forever homes is very uplifting and rewarding.”
We couldn't run without our volunteers! From helping behind reception to joining in with our events and giving our animals lots of reassurance and love, our volunteers are essential to everything we do.
