Outreach

Mayhew is more than an animal rescue centre. We are working to improve animal welfare in the community and to support the people who live in it.

Supporting vulnerable people and their animals

Mayhew is more than an animal rescue centre. We are working to improve animal welfare in the community and to support the people who live in it. Our team work with people in crisis or in need of support and protect the vital bond they share with their animal.

Supporting people who are experiencing homelessness

Mayhew has been a lifeline for people who are experiencing homelessness since 2000.
A dog is often a homeless person’s only companion, but the added expense of vet and food bills puts an extra burden on people who are already in a vulnerable situation. Our Community Support Officers regularly visit those experiencing homelessness and their dogs and cats at centres and on the streets, where they build close and trusted relationships with them and provide free general health checks and microchipping.

Our work with food banks

We currently work to provide supplies to struggling pet owners in our community through food banks and directly.

We work hard to improve the lives of dogs, cats and people in our local communities. Our team go out to food banks within the five boroughs that we work (Brent, Hammersmith & Fulham, Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, and Ealing) in to give support to pet owners in need. Currently, we work directly with five food banks in our area and provide them with cat/dog food, supplies, and individual care packages. If you'd like to get in touch to receive our support, call us on 020 8962 8000 or email us on [email protected]

Collect & Care

Collect & Care is our programme provide support to vulnerable pet owners and give them improved access to preventative veterinary care.

What is Collect & Care?

Our Collect & Care programme was created to provide support to vulnerable pet owners and give them improved access to preventative veterinary care. This service is available for dogs and cats.

Our team will collect the animals from the owners, take them to Mayhew’s Community Veterinary Clinic for treatment and then return them safe and sound. They also explain the benefits of neutering from a medical and behavioural perspective, what procedures will be carried out, what aftercare is required once their pet is returned to them and how to keep them happy and healthy in the future.

Why have we created Collect & Care?

Collect & Care is one of our community programmes designed to help keep owners and their pets together.

By preventing potential health and welfare issues, we can stop these animals having to be given up into the shelter environment.

Where do we cover

We offer our Collect & Care service in the following London boroughs:

Ealing
Brent
Hammersmith & Fulham
Kensington and Chelsea
Westminster

Please note, our service for collecting and neutering owned cats or dogs within our designated catchment area, known as "Collect & Care," is currently paused, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

With ever increasing numbers of cats and kittens coming into rehoming centres we have decided to focus on cats, however we do accept dogs as well (please call us to find out if you are eligible).

To find out more about our Collect & Care scheme please contact our Community Vet Clinic by email via [email protected] or call them on 020 8962 8017.
