Why microchip?

Thousands of cats and dogs are lost each year in the UK and many are never reunited with their owners as they have no permanent identification. Microchipping is the safest way to ensure they can always get back to you when lost.

Microchips can be implanted in conscious animals. Eligible pet owners can book a microchip only appointment at Mayhew, or have it done whilst your pet is receiving another treatment from us.

*** From 10 June 2024, it is a legal requirement in England to microchip your cat if they’re older than 20 weeks.***

Puppies must be microchipped by law by the age of 8 weeks. Microchipping is a legal requirement for all dogs in England and Wales.

Your animal’s microchip information is held by a third party database. You should contact them to update your details if they change, for example moving house or a new phone number. For more information, visit PETtrac.
