I am a Student Veterinary Nurse at Mayhew, and I’ve almost finished my studies! I joined the veterinary team in summer 2018.
At Mayhew, the nurses are assigned a specific role for the day. This could be to care for the Hospital Ward patients, to help in theatre with surgeries, running laboratory tests, or helping the vets during consultations and vaccination clinics.
Definitely the staff. The veterinary team are so supportive of one another, and it is because of this we are able to do our jobs so well and take care of ourselves and one another. Veterinary work can be very high pressure, but if you’re surrounded by people who share your values for animal welfare, you can really work as a team to give each patient the best level of care.
Scamp is my rescue dog from Mayhew. When I first met him in the kennels, I knew immediately he was the dog for me and my partner. Scamp was very scared and anxious going into a house environment, and it’s been a challenge at times, but he has settled into domestic life very well and is definitely a much-loved member of the family.
Coming from an art background, I have a creative side to me as well as a scientific one – at work I get to feed the scientific part, while at home I enjoy being creative by crafting, making music and DJing (under my alias Dj LadyManners).
