The Mayhew’s Open Day Raises £10,000

The Mayhew Animal Home recently held its fantastic Open Day event on Sunday May 21st and raised an incredible £10,000 on the day.

The Mayhew threw a spectacular street party, sponsored by Hamilton Court Developments, and opened its doors to visitors so they could have an exclusive look behind-the-scenes at the Home and also get the chance to meet our wonderful staff and volunteers.

In the heart of North West London, our Open Day brought together an eclectic mix of stalls, activities and games. There was fun for the whole family including meeting our gorgeous TheraPaws volunteers’ Sofia Mollahassani with her dog Nala, Katie Swann with her dog Charlie, Chaya Overlander with her dog Poppy, Penny Thompson with her dog Millie and Helen Liu with her dog Java, and saying hello to our cats still waiting for new homes in our cattery.

Guests also had the chance to have a look around our Vet Clinic and speak with our Vets and Vet Nurses, who were on hand to show work and equipment demonstrations. Throughout the day, entertainment was provided by acoustic singer, Dolly Mavies, and North London Brass band. We also had plenty of garden games and activities including hook a duck, coconut shy, and a raffle that was later drawn by Instagram famous pup, Marcel Le Corgi.

The successful day also included our Happily Rehomed Parade, with many of our more recently adopted dogs taking part such as adorable dachshund Bob, who was born completely deaf and has now learnt sign language, terrier pup Kevin, previously known as Rascal, who was cruelly dumped in a box and left for dead, Pippa, who used to be known as Mocha and was sold outside a London tube station despite being poorly and malnourished, Pepper, previously known as Madison, who was purchased online as a present, but later no longer wanted, were also joined by Nora, Hera, Bella, Betty and Emily.

The event was compered by loyal Mayhew supporter, Angela Songui, who kept the crowd entertained all day.

The Mayhew’s Events Officer, Zoe Sheehan, said: “Thank you to everyone who attended and supported The Mayhew, including staff and volunteers. It was great to see so many people enjoying the street party and having a look behind the scenes at the vital work we do at The Mayhew.”

Our Open Day event attracted over 900 visitors and we raised £10,000 on the day, which will go towards helping more animals in need. So a huge thank you to everyone who came along to support us. Also big thanks to our volunteers and staff who helped out and made it a truly memorable event.
