In 2017, animal charity Mayhew has continued to work for dogs, cats and communities. To share some of the amazing things that have happened this year, we have put together a 2017 highlights video. *Stats correct as of November 2017

We have rescued and found forever homes for 356 cats and 90 dogs including our longest stayers, Akita Prince and tortie cat Rosie. We also reunited many lost animals with their families including Pepsi, who had been lost for 8 months before being reunited with his owner Davinia.

2017 was also our 17^th year of working with the homeless and their furry companions. As well as reaching out to rough sleepers on the streets in many London boroughs, our Animal Welfare Officers visit 15 homeless centres regularly and work tirelessly with several organisations including Thames Reach, Spitalfields Crypt Trust, The Salvation Army, St Mungo’s, Crisis and Broadway Homeless Hostel and Drop in Centre, to offer support and advice to homeless people.

Not only have they been working with the homeless, they have handled 271 welfare cases this year including rescuing 10 day old kittens who were found in a bin bag.

At the beginning of the year, our International team in Afghanistan signed a landmark agreement so that Kabul City authorities halted the cruel practice of culling street dogs through strychnine poisoning, a slow and very painful death for the dogs. We then started our mass rabies vaccination programme across Kabul and Mayhew’s Afghanistan Country Director, Dr. Abdul-Jalil Mohammadzai DVM received an ADCH Special Recognition award for his work.
