I heard about Mayhew through two of my neighbours, who are both cat fosterers and I thought it was a wonderful idea. When my cat passed away last year, this seemed like the right time to start. I started in January, and so far have fostered two cats. The first cat, Emily, came in as her owner went into care. She is an older cat, she was a bit shell shocked and seemed so sad at first. Emily was quick to adapt, was an absolute joy and within weeks she was adopted, it felt good to be able to help her in her time of need.
I am now looking after Moses: he suffers with stress cystitis. In his previous home the cystitis would flare up, as he was being attacked by another cat, so the owners made the difficult decision to surrender him to Mayhew. Mo has been with me for over 4 months now, he is a very anxious boy and took quite some time to settle. Gaining his trust is a long road and he is slowly making himself king of his castle. It takes a special adoptee to look after a cat with a medical condition, and I hope he will find a home soon, although I will miss him greatly. The hardest part of fostering is saying good bye to these cats, however, I know there will always be more to help and that Mayhew will find them a good home.
We are absolutely delighted to share that Mayhew has won the top prize in the Animals & the Environment category…
