    Cats in ‘crisis’

It’s been a challenging year for our Cattery Team, who have faced a ‘cat crisis’ as the number of cats and kittens abandoned on our doorstep has skyrocketed. Cats just like She-Ra who was abandoned outside our animal Home in North West London. With cat abandonments increasing so dramatically, especially over the last couple of months, we were unable to take in a single cat or kitten from our waiting list in July.

Every cat that comes through our doors receives tailored veterinary and behavioural care. At 12-years-old, She-Ra was particularly vulnerable. The door to her carrier had been left open, but fortunately She-Ra stayed inside – potentially saving her life.

After an examination by our veterinary team, we were pleased to see that She-Ra was in good health. However, although she doesn’t carry any physical wounds, she does have emotional wounds, which we can still see today. She-Ra doesn’t understand why she was abandoned and spends a lot of her time in her cabin hiding and seeking the comfort and safety she lost the day she was left outside.

While we are proud to offer, She-Ra a safe haven, she is just one of the many abandonment cases we have taken in this year. As the number of cats and kittens abandoned goes up and the number of people wanting to adopt falls, the situation is becoming overwhelming.

She-Ra was fortunate, and she will have a safe place to stay with us until we can find her a forever home, alongside a full bowl of food, warm blankets and enriching toys. But with numbers continuing to rise – the demand for our services outstrips our capacity.
