Callie the cat was found as a stray local to us. When she came to us we discovered that she hadn’t been microchipped.
Callie certainly wasn’t a stray that had been living on the London streets for a while. She was overweight, needing to shed a few pounds, very friendly and fully domesticated. Unfortunately for her, our Animal Welfare team could not locate her owners and return her to the loving home that she had clearly been a part of – because she wasn’t microchipped.
Microchipping is cheap, quick and easy to do and can save a lot of worry and stress when a pet goes missing. Thousands of cats and dogs are lost every year and unnecessarily have to be found new homes when a simple visit to the vet is all that is required.
From 6th April 2016, all dogs are required to be microchipped by law. You can read more here.
This month is National Microchipping Month and throughout June, our vet and nurses clinics are offering a special discount – 10% off flea and worming treatment costs when you get your dog or cat microchipped. Read more details and book our low cost microchipping service here.
In conjunction with Brent Council our Animal Welfare Officers are also offering free microchipping for dogs owned by Brent residents on the following dates:
17th June 9am – 11am, Silver Jubilee Park, Townsend Lane, NW9 – near to the children’s play area
30th June 12pm – 2pm, Parkside, Oxley’s Road, NW6
21st July 10am – 12pm, South Kilburn open space, Carlton Vale, NW6
So there really is no excuse to not get your pet microchipped. Book an appointment with our vet clinic or go along to one of our park events.
