A Barking Success for Hounds on the Heath

Hundreds of owners and their four legged friends descended on Hampstead Heath to support Mayhew’s annual summer dog show event, Hounds on the Heath, on Sunday and raised an incredible £7,500 on the day.

Celebrities including Poldark star Beatie Edney, actor Peter Egan, TV presenter Danni Menzies, professional dancer Anya Garnis, actor Josh Sinclair-Evans, TV presenter Anneka Svenska, model Daryna Milgevska, animal activist and social media star Lisa Garner and Plum Pudding, and TV vet Marc Abraham, turned up to help judge our dog show categories throughout the day. With winners being announced for Best Looking Boy, Most Gorgeous Girl, Waggiest Tail, Best Rescue, Golden Oldie, Young Handler, Sweetest Staffie and Best in Show.

The event was compered by the brilliant Mayhew supporter, Angela Songui, who kept the crowd entertained all day. There was plenty of entertainment with an agility course provided by Friendly Creatures, scrumptious vegan food, and games and activities including Temptation Alley, sponsored by Beco Pets.

It was also the perfect opportunity to launch our new brand identity, rebranding from The Mayhew Animal Home to Mayhew, overhauling its brand strategy, identity and logo to appeal to a wider audience and highlight the range of animal welfare and community outreach work that the charity does. It is the first time that Mayhew has branded in 131 years.

The change in logo and identity will reinforce the outreach education and community work that Mayhew has led on for many years, as well as the help that they give to dogs and cats both in the UK and overseas.

Mayhew’s Chief Executive Officer, Caroline Yates, said: “It was great to see so many people with their four legged friends attending and enjoying the day. It was also a great opportunity to launch our new brand identity to our many supporters and volunteers.”

“Thank you to the many people who turned up to support us and raise awareness of the vital work we do. Through these events we are able to let more people know about how we help animals in need gain a better quality of life by delivering a broad range of community-based veterinary, care and education services in the UK and overseas.”

Hounds on the Heath attracted hundreds of visitors and we raised £7,500 on the day.

Mayhew’s Fundraising Development Manager, David Milsom, said: “A huge thank you to everyone for supporting Mayhew including staff, volunteers, sponsors and celebrities. Everyone worked so hard and it was great to see so many people with their pets enjoying the fabulous day.”

We also want to say a massive thank you to all of the sponsors who generously sponsored our event including DogBuddy, Barkers of Muswell Hill, Huxley Hound, Green Dog Walking, The Wag Club, Edgard & Cooper, Friendly Creatures, Beco Pets, and Bridget Davey Photography. Also thank you to Hampstead Heath’s Give It A Go festival and to City of London for their support in letting us use Hampstead Heath.
