Violet is a sweet natured, friendly and loving girl. She enjoys going on gentle adventures with her people and is always up for some affection! She is social with other dogs and happy to greet them but equally enjoys a more independent walk. She arrived at Mayhew with another pug, named Poppy and could be rehomed with her but this is not essential. Violet has been through a lot of changes recently and is looking for an understanding home that will give her the wonderful life she so deserves. She will make a fantastic little friend for the right family or person.
Read moreViolet can live in a flat as long as there is direct access to a garden. She could live with dog savvy, junior school age children providing they give her space when needed. She could also live with a calm, well adjusted adult dog, subject to a successful meet at Mayhew. As mentioned in the write up, Violet could be rehomed with her fellow Mayhew resident, Poppy but this is not essential. Whilst in our care, Violet was diagnosed with bladder stones. These were successfully removed by surgery and she has recovered well from the procedure. She is currently on a urinary prescription diet and will need to remain on this to lower the risk of bladder stone recurrence. She currently has a bilateral ear infection for which she is on treatment and responding well to. Violet has brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), a condition commonly seen in flat-faced breeds that causes narrowing of the upper airways and can make breathing more difficult. Whilst in our care, she has undergone corrective airway surgery, including a soft palate resection and wedge resection of the nostrils, to improve airflow. She has recovered well from surgery. Although the surgery has improved her airway, she continues to have a significant upper airway noise, indicating that she still has ongoing narrowing of the airways. It is therefore important that appropriate precautions continue throughout her life. Her adopter will need to be knowledgeable about brachy care and have researched her breed. They will need to take care with excessive exercise and hot weather, maintain her weight and ensure her skin folds are kept clean. Violet has been microchipped, neutered and vaccinated and is up to date with flea and worming treatment. She has also been health checked and behaviourally assessed. Lastly, every dog adopted from us will go home with 4 weeks free pet insurance.
