These tiny lives need big care.
When Shego arrived at Mayhew, she had been abandoned. Cold, fragile and far too young to survive by herself.
She was so quiet. No crying. No fuss. Just a tiny body, curled into itself.
She needed feeding every two hours, day and night, along with warmth and constant care to survive.
Today, Shego is safe. But her story is just one example of what kitten season demands.

Socute was found abandoned at a train station.
He had already spent two nights without proper care.
By the time he arrived at Mayhew, he was unwell, with vomiting and diarrhoea, and needed immediate attention, he required hands-on care straight away, including treatment to relieve a painful blockage and close monitoring in isolation while he recovered.
Today, he’s doing really well. But his story is a reminder of how quickly young kittens can become unwell, and how vital it is to act fast when they need help.
Some come to Mayhew as part of a litter.
This might be an unexpected litter at home, kittens born to a stray mother without safe shelter, or a litter born at Mayhew after a vulnerable mother comes into our care.
Caring for multiple young kittens is intensive.
They need regular feeding, constant warmth and close monitoring to stay well.
When kittens come into Mayhew’s care, we step in to give them the warmth, treatment and round-the-clock attention they need to survive.
