Louie is a super playful boy who will happily chase a ball up and down the stairs for ages. He can entertain himself for hours with whatever he finds to play with. He is easily startled however and is a little worrywart, so he needs an extra special new family who will understand him and his odd little ways.

How Rehoming WorksLouie is ok being left for a full working day as long as a catflap is installed. We feel he would be fine living with sensible older teenagers (who have experience with cats) as he can nip and swipe from time to time when he feels worriedand would need to be the only cat in the household. During his stay at Mayhew Louie has had a descale and polish of his teeth and has needed one tooth extraction. He also had some thinning hair when he arrived at Mayhew, likely from stress related overgrooming. He is now just waiting for a new home where he can be taken care of and given lots of fuss and attention. When it comes to your cats health we strongly recommend pet insurance and give all new adopters four weeks free from the point you take your cat home. It should be noted that insurance may not cover any of a cats medical issues (be that before or during their stay at Mayhew) on a permanent or temporary basis when you take out a new policy. Before any cat leaves Mayhew it will always be microchipped, neutered, treated for fleas and worms (these treatments are on-going) and their vaccination courses are at the very least started (most need two before moving on to a yearly schedule). All Mayhew cats have been behaviourally and medically assessed which informs our re-homing criteria and allows us to pass on information to you as adopters prior to taking on the commitment of adopting a cat. This commitment can be up-to 20 years so make sure you have looked into the costs involved in caring for a cat, including insurance, veterinary fees and general care (food, litter, toys etc). At all stages of the adoption process we consider everything that can affect the cat and is why we carry out home visits to make sure they will be happy in their new surroundings before sending them home. What we will never do is compromise a cats welfare by letting them be adopted into the wrong home environment. That would not be fair to the cat or you as prospective adopters. We take care to match you with a suitable companion and hope that our years of experience can guide you in the process of giving a cat its new fur-ever home.
Little Louie has made great progress and is embracing life to the full. He has changed from being a bit of a scaredy cat to a fun loving boy. His favourite game is to chase bouncy balls up and down the stairs, so you’ll need stamina to keep up with him! He’s also a little monkey as he likes to pull the toilet paper off the roll and run off with it in his mouth. But he’s a good boy, never jumping up on the kitchen counters. He enjoys his cat tree and will climb to the top and sit watching out of the window for a while before finding somewhere comfy for a snooze. When Louie first came to me, he would swipe out, but with his claws retracted and this only happened initially. Once he knows you, he is happy to engage in strokes and cuddles. It also doesn’t take him long to settle if there are visitors in the home, but he can be unsettled at first. He has met a 10 year old whist he was with me and he didn’t seem any more worried than if she were an adult and was soon playing with her happily. But as Louie can be easily startled by sudden movements or loud noises, he’d probably be happiest living in an all adult home or with older teenagers who are experienced with temperamental cats. Louie also has the tendency to hump. This behaviour reduced as time went on. Overall, he is a sweet and loving boy who is just a little misunderstood.
There is a lot to consider before adopting a new family member
