Every dog and cat in need deserves expert, personalised care and support, and to be loved. When you work for Mayhew, you understand that better than ever.

Mayhew is focused almost entirely on preventative veterinary and animal welfare services; there is an urgent and soaring demand for our support, including in the context of cost-of-living pressures for pet owners. Our Community Animal Support Team provides support to pet owners in the community across our 5 boroughs in London: Hammersmith & Fulham, Brent, Ealing, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. We are recruiting a Community Animal Support Officer who will share our compassion and commitment for animal welfare to join this team.

Our Community Animal Support Officer will provide animal welfare outreach and support to our London communities. The main focus of this role is visiting a range of sites, venues, people and their pets and a) providing them with information, advice and practical support with good animal welfare practice and the upkeep of their pets and b) signposting and cross-referring them to our range of preventative services. To achieve this, the postholder will regularly travel to various sites in the community in one of our animal ambulances and proactively interact with residents and other organisations across the boroughs in which we work.

The ideal candidate will be a personable and intuitive communicator, engaging and proactive, passionate about the intersection of animal welfare issues and social welfare issues and as committed to dogs, cats and pet owners in need as we are. Our Community Animal Support Officer will work a shift pattern of Tuesday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm, with flexibility to work 8am – 4pm on occasion.

Mayhew offers a caring and supportive team, a variety of employee benefits, from enhanced annual leave and sickness pay from day one, to Health Cash Plans.

    Generally, you will:

    • Provide residents in the community with information, advice and practical support with good animal welfare practice and the upkeep of their pets
    • Signpost residents in the community and cross-refer them to our range of preventative services

To be successful in this role, you need:

    • Knowledge of good animal welfare practices
    • Experience of handling and working with dogs and cats
    • Experience delivering a high standard of support to service users
    • Experience building relationships and engaging a range of stakeholders
    • A clean driving license and willingness to drive one of our animal ambulances regularly
